Waiting for a stuck grader and grit truck

Waiting for a stuck grader and grit truck

Some of the Thornton/Rayne/Finbar crew amuse themselves while waiting for the access road above the Mountain House to open

More often than not we get a delayed start, due to the time it takes to clear the access road (a public road not a private road). We are at the mercy of SDC contractor Fulton Hogan, who do a great job clearing all the high access roads to the mountain, the Plateau included. This day the grader got stuck on an icy road, so needed some help; once the grit truck was done the access road to the car park was easy to drive up.

Sometimes it pays not to rush up to our mountain; may as well have a cruisy time getting here, to be assured of minimal delay on arrival at the Mountain House or even at the park boundary when we receive snow to low levels. Think about that coffee at McFarlanes Inglewood, or that Sub of the Day at Stratford's Subway on your way up!
